New Zealand's Futsal Whites

How do you feel when you write to a sports team? Well guess what? We were emailing messages to the Futsal Whites. OMG!! Did you know that the Futsal Whites are V E R Y good and that they have a strong defence? The Futsal Whites are representing New Zealand. And did you know that they are acftually in Fiji? In the Futsal Whites there is a young player called Dylan Manickum. He is quick and skilfull and he has the ability to score goals in matches. Dylan's mother is Ingrid Manickum, a teacher at St Patrick's School. Miss Lorenzo took pictures of us holding our Futsal Whites banner that we made. The Futsal Whites

In Social Skills we are learning about relating to others. This morning we wrote emails to the Futsal Whites who are New Zealand's indoor football team. We wrote to them to cheer them up because in their game yesterday they lost against Tahiti 7-6. We traced out soccer players and made a banner for our Futsal Whites team in Fiji. Just before buddy reading time we went outside and took a picture of us with the banner. Our Swimming Pool

Fences are there to keep people out of places or maybe keep people safe. We have a fence at school around the tennis court. In the holidays they built a pool and put a fence around it so nobody can go in there.

St Patrick’s School was surprised that they had a pool from Watersafe Auckland. But before we get into the pool we have to wash our feet in a bucket of water, then we go up the ladder to get inside the pool. The first time I went in the water it was comfortable, cosy and warm. I smelt something. I knew it was a chemical called chlorine.

I felt happy and nervous at the same time going in the pool because it was like a dream.

In the holidays St Patrick’s got a new thing from Watersafe Auckland – it’s a pool!

The first time we swam was on Wednesday 4 May. It was exciting and scary because the boys had to wear no shirts. When I got into the pool it was warm and the water was up to my chest. We played a game of “Salmon Says”. We had to glide from one side of the pool to the other side then back into the middle and sink to do a cannon ball. When I did all the things I felt like a ship sailing across the sea. My hands felt like they were fish but it was just the water. The water smelt like chlorine. Chris was a little bit funny and cool to play Salmon Says with us.

On Thursday we went to Mass then afterwards we went straight into the pool. We stayed there until morning tea time. At the end of our time Christopher, Taniela, Tevita and I swam to the other end of the pool. It was awesome holding my breath underwater because I didn’t know I could hold my breath that long.

St Patrick’s is not an ordinary school because they got something awesome on their tennis court. In the second week of the holidays they got a swimming pool. In the pool there is a chemical called chlorine. The chlorine makes the water clear and it helps to keep the pool clean. Now you must be wondering where St Patrick’s got the pool from in the first place? Well it came from Watersafe Auckland. They let St Patrick’s use it for free. Watersafe Auckland lends swimming pools to schools so children can learn how to be safe in the water. St Patrick’s is a very lucky school.

I felt nervous when we got the swimming pool because I thought it would be really deep but the water came up to my neck.

A tennis court – just a good place for a crane to put a heavy load on. In the holidays St Patrick’s school got a pool on the tennis court.

On Wednesday which was our day for aquatics I was nervous to get into the pool because that was my first time seeing a pool in our school. I went with my whole class and when I got into the pool I felt I was in a hot place just like a spa.

It was nice for Watersafe Auckland to lend us the pool.
That was my coolest day ever!

How St Patrick's Got Their Pool

In the holidays our school got something from the Watersafe Auckland company and it’s on the tennis court. Let me just give you two clues. Number one, it’s a rectangle. Number two, it has warm water that feels like a spa. What could it be? While we were relaxing at the beach and getting a tan, St Patrick’s got a swimming pool for free!

First a crane lifted a trailer with a motor inside it. But there was a problem with the hook, it was not tied to the trailer so four men had to tighten it. After that the crane operator lifted the trailer over the fence and slowly put it down on the ground. Next the men unhooked the trailer. Then they made the pool and put the tent up around it. Anyway our first session was on Wednesday 4 May. When we got to the pool I started getting scared because it was my first time swimming in the pool at school. But when I got into the pool I didn’t feel scared anymore, we played “Salmon Says” and “Captain’s Coming”.

Our Swimming Pool

Tennis courts are used for playing and practising tennis. Something big and blue landed on our school tennis court, in front of Rooms 7 and 8.

In the holidays St Patrick’s got an awesome swimming pool. The water felt warm like being in a spa. I smelt chlorine, the chemical that keeps on making my eyes blink. When I was swimming I had to open my eyes to see where I was going before I crashed into the stairs.

Everybody in St Patrick’s has a turn swimming. The scary part for me was holding my breath when I did a cannon ball because I had to touch the bottom of the pool.

I was proud of myself for swimming from one end of the pool to the other end, because I stopped once.

I was really, really overwhelmed at first but now I am used to seeing the pool. On Monday, Wednesday and Thursday we have aquatics. I found out that the pool has a chemical called chlorine. The chemical makes the water clear.

Everytime we go and have a swim we play games like Salmon Says and Captain’s Coming. I have fun and I really, enjoy doing aquatics that’s why I’m looking forward to this week. I feel refreshed when I come out of the water.
