Duffy Assembly

Have you met someone who wagged school? Well on Monday 4th April we met our Duffy Role Model. His name was Mr Mac. He told us his life story, the importance of school, and how he crushed his arm. Then he told us about his first book that he wrote. It was called "Doug the Digger". He showed us not so good drawings and very good drawings of Doug the digger. After that he chose four children Leonye, Star, Aaron and Julius (in Room 2). They had to hold up three books. We kind of sang along to the CD. It was so generous of Mr Mac to visit us and now my goal for next term is to be a better writer!

BASEBALL

Do you know how it feels when someone new comes to your school? Every Thursday we have baseball. The person who teaches us is Aaron. He remembered Reitz from last year and he said Reitz can show us base 1, 2 and 3. Then Aaron said we should all try touching the bases with our feet. We all did. Then the next time we all used the baseball bat. Aaron asked Room 5 and 6 "would you like to bat or field?" Then Room 5 said "bat". Room 5 had to stand in line. Room 6 was fielding. When Taniela had his turn everyone in the class said, "you can do it!" Then he hit the ball and Room 6 couldn't catch the ball because it was too fast and high! Room 5 was happy. Finally it was my turn to bat. I didn't want to have a turn so Tevita and Phontain said "you can do it, just hit the ball". I did so. I ran fast to base 1 and 2. That was fun and awesome. Aaron said that each class which is Room and 6 was playing very awesome because there were good players in each class. I really, really enjoyed playing baseball with Room 5 and 6!

Mr Mac

Ever felt like "wagging' school? Well our Duffy Role Model Mr Mac wagged school when he was thirteen years old, so when he got a test he said "I will only get twelve or fifteen out of a hundred". He had to drop out of school when he was fifiteen and started looking for a job. He found his perfect job. It was to drive huge bulldozers and diggers. He was having fun in his job when one day his arm got crushed. He spent a lot of time in the hospital. After being in hospital he started to find a new job. After years of trying to find a job Mr Mac said to himself "I want to write a book". But he had to go back to school because he didn't know his alphabet. Then he told us the process of writing a book. After showing us his final product he said "If you are afraid of people laughing at your work, have a laugh and try again". Meeting Mr Mac has inspired me to work hard in school and to believe in myself!

BASEBALL

"B" What's so great about that letter? What's so awesome about the letter "L" too? Did you know that those letters are in the word "baseball" ? We had baseball like always on Thursday. My class versus Room 6. First we did warm ups. We had to throw the ball to the other person. My partner was Dehnyse. Dehnyse and I were having fun until Oooops! I hit her nose with the ball. I ran to the teacher to help Dehnyse. She was Ok but I had no one to throw the ball to. I stood there like a tree. Then I got someone to throw the ball to. Soon afterwards we played a game called Tee-Ball. It was fun! In the end Room 6 won. I didn't care if we lost as long as we had FUN and as long as we worked as a team. I can't wait for next time. I hope it will be even more fun than ever!

Baseball

Have you ever hit a ball so hard that your friends and teacher couldn't even catch it? I did! It started with a cold morning. We had a baseball session. It was totally AWESOME! Room 5 had one Room 6 had nil and it was my friend Taniela's turn to bat. I could see him concentrating on the ball. Everyone was slient and when he swung the bat the ball went flying into the air! Everyone was shouting "Go Taniela." He ran as fast as he could. The ball bounced on the ground. Taniela ran to first base, then second base, then third base, then home! everyone shouted "Yeah!" and it made my ears sore. It was my turn. I clutched the bat and was trying to find an open spae on the field. I went for a hit. The ball flew in the air and I was running like the wind! Mrs Manickum and Room 6 couldn't even catch it. I was at third base and I had to run to home base. My heart was beating faster than ever. I ran to home and then the bell rang. I touched "home" and Aaron said "Safe!". Room 5 won and shouted "Yeah!" That was the coolest sports day EVER!

Duffy Role Model Assembly

Have you ever failed on a test before? I have and I have heard of someone who did too. His name is Mr Mac. He came to our school on Monday 4th April because we were having a Duffy Role Model Assembly. Mr Mac came to tell us some of his life story. When he was at school he used to wag and talk with his friends in class. When he was twenty five years old he wanted to write a book, so he had to go back to school. When he finished school he started to write a book called Doug the Digger. Some people helped him to draw trucks, bulldozers, diggers, tractors and cranes for the book. I felt HAPPY because Mr Mac told us the importance of staying in school and I really want to write a book when I grow up.

Mr Mac Attack

Have you ever seen your deputy Principal dance before? On Monday after Religious Education we had a Duffy Role Model Assembly. Our visitor’s name was Mr Mac Attack. At the beginning of assembly Mr Mac got up, went to Mrs Dines and started dancing. When they were dancing the other teachers were jealous! Mr Mac told us that when he was thirteen years old he used to wag school and fail tests. When he was twenty five he thought about writing a book so he went back to school to learn his numbers and how to read and write. That was a day that taught me a lot about writing.
